Free ECU Identification: Upload Your File, See Your ECU and What Applies
Before you start, you want to know which ECU you are working with and which operations apply to your file. In EcuPrime that costs no credits: create a free account and upload the ECU file you read; the software identifies the ECU from the file's content and lists the operations that apply to your file. Credits are used only when you start an operation.
Steps
How does free ECU identification work?
Create a free account
Sign-up is free; the pre-check needs no package and no credits.
Upload your ECU file
Upload the file you read with your tool; ZIP / GZIP archives and Intel HEX and S-record files are opened too.
The ECU is identified from the file
The ECU is identified from the file's content, not from its name or from what you declare; once it is recognised, you do not need to pick a make or model from a list.
See what applies
The operations that apply to your file are listed. Seeing them costs no credits.
Result
What do you see in the pre-check?
The identified ECU
The vehicle type, make and ECU identified from your file.
Applicable operations
Of operations such as Stage 1, DPF, EGR, AdBlue and DTC, only those that genuinely apply to your file are enabled; not every operation exists for every file.
Credits only for an operation
Credits are used only when you start an operation, and refunded if it cannot be delivered.

What you should know
Package scope
On an account without a package, the free pre-check covers files in the car group. For trucks, tractors, construction machines and other vehicle groups, the result is shown with a package that covers that group.
If your file is not recognised
The panel asks you to select the vehicle type, make and ECU yourself; this analysis costs no credits either. If no applicable operation comes up, you can open a request in the Support & Requests tab of your panel and attach your file.
Back up before writing
The pre-check is a check of the file. Back up your ECU before you write any operation to the vehicle.
Got an Autotuner, Flex, KESS3 or Dimsport file?
How the file you read with your tool is uploaded to the software: which file, which formats, full and partial reads, encrypted slave packages and the checksum before writing.
Want to edit the file yourself?
EcuPrime Studio runs in the browser: edit maps in Hex, Table, 2D and 3D view, list ORI/MOD differences and save versions.

Is ECU identification really free?
Yes. With a free account you can upload your file and see your ECU identified and the operations that apply to your file without spending credits. Credits are used only when you start an operation, and refunded if it cannot be delivered.
How is the ECU identified?

What if my file is not recognised?
The panel asks you to select the vehicle type, make and ECU yourself. If there is an applicable operation for the ECU you pick, it opens; if not, it stays closed. This analysis costs no credits; if no operation comes up, you can open a request in the Support & Requests tab of your panel.
Are truck or tractor files identified for free too?
On an account without a package, the free pre-check covers files in the car group. For trucks, tractors, construction machines and other vehicle groups, the result is shown with a package that covers that group.
Which files can I upload?
Upload the original file you read from the ECU with your tool. ZIP / GZIP archives and Intel HEX and S-record files are opened too; RAR / 7z are not, and encrypted tool packages cannot be processed.
